Dear Mr. O'Reilly:
In our December 9,1983 response to RII: GFM/RLP 50-400/83-29, we informed you of the actions which we planned to take to resolve the referenced violation concerning non "Q" class bolting materials being used in a "Q" class application. To date, our commitment to revise site specifications where necessary, to allow the substitution of bolts which are marked as standard practice for those which are not already marked or easily identifiable by shape, manufacturers' mark, etc., has been met.
Subsequent to our previous report we have identified instances where quantitles of unmarked fasteners are supplied by some vendors along with unassembled equipment or material. An example of this situation is the safety-related ductwork which is supplied unassembled with the fasteners supplied separately. To simplify material control, we are presently devising a system for identifying these bolts also.
Investigation for acceptability of previously installed fasteners is continuing. Our original
- projected date of June 1,1984, for full compliance of all aspects, is still considered to be valid.
Thank you for your consideration in this matter.
Yours very truly, P)f
