SUMMARY
OF OPEPATING EXPERIENCE Docket No.
50-247 Date:
2/8/83 Completed by:
J. Curry Telephone No (914) 526-5235 Following the cycle 5/6 Refueling / Maintenance Cutage, Unit 2 was returned to service on January 2, 1983.
On January 4, reactor power was raised to 50%.
Additional balance moves on the main turbine required Unit No. 2 to be removed from service on January 5.
- Balance, turbine testing and miscellaneous maintenance work were completed, and the Unit' was returned to service on January 8 As reactor power was being increased to 50%,
the Unit tripped automatically due to high level in No.
23 steam generator caused by the malfunction of the feedwater regulating valve.
During the shutdown the main steam isolation valve associated with No. 22 steam generator stuck in the open position during valve testing requiring a plant cooldown for repairs.
During startup on January 10, the Unit tripped as a result of a malfunction of the main turbine independent electrical overspeed protection system (IEOPS).
Repairs to the' IEOPS were made and the Unit returned to service on January 12.
Reactor power was increased to 50 percent to complete startup physics tests required at 50% power.
Reactor power was increased to 90% on ~ January 15 to perform startup physics tests regired at this power level.
Iater that day, a controlled plant shutdown was initiated due to an indication of reactor cavity water level.
During the power reduction, the Unit tripped due to closure of No. 23 main steam isolation valve.
his was caused by a faulty check valve in its air supply line to the isolation valve which was repaired.
The reactor cavity was found to be dry and the level instrument was recalibrated.
On January 17, the Unit was returned to service and reactor power raised to 90%.
Following completion of 90% reactor power startup physics testing, on January 23 the Unit was brought to 100% power.
At the close of the report period, the Unit was removed from service and brought to cold shutdown to repair No. 23 reactor coolant pump scal.
