BELLEFONTE NUCLEAR PLANT UNITS 1 AND 2 FAILED G.E. TRIP BREAKERS BLRD-50-438/84-01, BLRD-50-439/84-01 l

NCR 2496 10 CFR 50.55(e)

FIRST INTERIM PEFORT Description of Deficiency Trip breakers 1NR-52-015-F and 016-G failed testing because they would not close. Some of the electrical contacts that function during the close stroke also appear to be burncd. A contributing factor of the failure appears to be a lack of proper maintenance or storage.

Interim Progresa TVA is currently considering the replacement of the defective breakers in unit 1 with two breakers from unit 2 that performed acceptably during preliminary testing as well as inuastigating the disposition of the two defective breakers.
