APPLICANTS' DESIGNATION OF WITNESSES WITH RESPECT TO CONTENTIONS 16 AND 18/44 On September 14, 1983 the Board issued a Prehearing Conference Order. Therein the Board directed each party to provide "the names of all witnesses who will testify in this proceeding and the subject area of this testimony shall be identified to the Board and the other parties according to the following schedule:

Contentions 16 and 44/18 - - September 23" Applicants provide the following list of witnesses they presently intend to call in this proceeding with respect to Contentions 16 and 44/18, and the subject areas of their testimony:

1. On Contention 16 Applicants presently contemplate calling Michael C. Green who will provide a description of the original plans for the Catawba spent fuel pools and explain the modifications made to such pools.

Applicants presently contemplate calling Michael S. Tuckman to discuss spent fuel handling.

Applicants also presently contemplate calling A. Lowell Snow to discuss the spent fuel cooling system, the heat loads such system will see under various conditions, the times to assembly uncovering under postulated accident conditions, mitigating actions that can be taken, and the time such

can be taken, and criticality analyses.

2. On Contention 44/18 Applicants presently contemplate calling T. R. Mager and T. A. Meyer of Westinghouse Corporation who will address the radiation sensitivity of the reactor vessels including the calculation of end of life RTNDT. This presentation takes into account the use of

Trend curves ~and surveill'anc~e capsule data. The witnesses will discuss Regulatory Guide 1.99 and the Guthrie Formulae.

Also the application of.RTNDT to heatup and cooldown curves and pressurized themal shock will be discussed.
