Enclosed is an interim report in accordance with 10CFR50.55(e) for the potential deficiency regarding environmental and/or seismic qualification documentation of certain control room equipment.
This condition was reported by telephone to Mr. W. Baunack of your staff on September 21, 1982 and was followed by an interim report on October 15, 1982.

~-f NIAGARA h0 HAWK POWER CORPORATION NINE MILE POINT UNIT 2 DOCKET NO. 50-410 Interim Report for a Problem Concerning Environmental and/or Seismic Qualification Documentation of Certain Control Room Equipment Description of the Deficiency A Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation Quality Assurance review of design record files at General Electric Company revealed that sufficient environmental and/or seismic qualification documentation did not exist for certain control room equipment.
The control room equipment is as follows:
- 1. GE Type 185 Position Indicator (Environmental & Seismic)
- 2. GE Type CR28208 Relay (Environmental)
- 3. Eagle Signal Cycle Flex Timer (Seismic)
- 5. Cutler Hammer Type 10250T Control Switch (Environmental)
- 6. Master Specialties Switch & Light Unit (Seismic)
- 7. Bailey Type 701 Controller (Environmental)
- 8. Bailey Type 701 Square Root Extraitor (Environmental)
- 9. Bailey Type 701 Summer (Environmental)
- 10. Bailey Type 701 Alarm Unit (Environmenta?)
- 11. Bailey Type 701 Flow Controller En 11ronmental
- 12. Riley Temperature Switch Environmental
- 13. GE Range Switch Environmental
- 14. Automatic Electric Series BQA Relay (Environmental & Seismic)
- 15. Eagle Signal Multipulse Timer (Environmental & Seismic)
- 16. Leeds & Northrup Speedomax Mark III Recorder (Environmental & Seismic)
- 17. GE Vertical Meter Type 180 (Environmental)
Corrective Actions Since the reporting of this problem, General Electric has provided sufficient environmental and/or seismic qualification documentation to qualify items 1 through 13 of the above equipment to IEEE 323-1971 and/or IEEE 344-1971. This documentation is in the design record files at General Electric in California for review.
Items 14 and 15, which were not originally scheduled by General Electric for equipment qualification, have been placed in the B0P Active Device Qualification Program to close tl.ese items.
Item 16, the Leeds & Northrup Speedomax Mark III Recorder, has been replaced with a Westronics Recorder.
The qualification documentation for the Westronics Recorder as well as item 17 is currantly under review by General Electric.
Niagara Mohawk will provide a final report by October 30, 1983 which will address the qualification of items 16 and 17.
