Docket No. 50-219 License No. DPR-16 Core Spray Sparger Inspections Pursuant to the requirements of the subject license, paragraph 2.C.(7) which requires that authorization be obtained from the Commission's staff before the plant is restarted from the refueling outage, and Appendix A, Technical Specifications, paragraph 6.9.3.e, GPU Nuclear is submitting the Core Spray Sparger Inspection report from the Cycle 13 refueling outage.
. Topical Report No. 080 which is enclosed for your review describes the nondestructive examinations (NDE) that were performed on the Core Spray Spargers and the associated in-vessel annulus piping.
The sparger assemblies and in-vessel annulus piping were. inspected utilizing a remote visual (camera) examination supplemented with an optional air test.
The visual examinations which used a one mil wire for the calibration standard revealed no relevant indications for the accessible areas of the sparger and annulun piping. The air test reconfirmed the through wall crack previously identified at azimuth 208' by a steady stream of bubbles from the repair clamp located at azimuth 204* to 210'.
Based on the favorable inspection results-(no new indications) and in accordance with the license co0dition, GPU Nuclear is requesting NRC authorization in a timely fashicn that supports our scheduled restart.
In the event the staff may have any comments or questions, please contact Mr. Michael Laggart, Manager, Corporate Nuclese Licensing at (201)316-7968.
