Virgil C. Summer Nuclear Station Docket No. 50/395 Operating License No. NPF-12 I&E Bulletin 83-03
Dear Mr. O'Reilly:
South Carolina Electric & Gas Company has reviewed the plant Pump and Valve In-Service Inspection (ISI) program with respect to IEB 83-03.
Two check valves (XVC-3119A and XVC-3119B) were found to be applicable.
These valves are located in the cooling water inlet for each diesel generator and are presently forward flow tested by Surveillance Test Procedure 123.003 on a quarterly basis.
In order to more adequately confirm the integrity of the valve internals, STP-123.003 will be revised to include a reverse flow test by July 31, 1983.
Both the forward and reverse flow testing will then be accomplished on a quarterly basis.
As our refueling outage is presently scheduled for October 1984, the requirement that the subject valves be tested "by the end of the next refueling outage commencing af ter April 1, 1983" will be l
satisfied.
To date, there have been no failures associated with XVC-3119A or XVC-3119B.
