C.P. Patel to D.L. Farrar letter dated May 12,1994.

Mr. Russell, 5

In Reference (1), Commonwealth Edison Company (Comed) submitted a proposed third ten-year intervalinservice inspection (ISI) program for Quad Cities Station Units 1 and 2. In Reference (2), the NRC Staff identified additionalinformation which would be required in order to review and approve the proposed ISI Program. The NRC requested the submittal of this information by July 12,1994.

The purpose of this letter is to request an extension to this date. This extension request is based upon the level of resources which Comed has applied towards the resolution of critical ISI issues (including the Core Shroud crack indications) during the current refuel outage at Quad Cities Station Unit 1 (01R13). The application of these resourcee 9tially five full. time engineers) has severely limited the ability cf the cognir eers to prepare a response to the RAl.

.d anticipates that resources will not be available to initiate development of the R,

ase until start up of Unit 1 following the current refuel outage (start-up scheduled for suiy 30,1994). Comed will submit the RAI response within sixty days af ter start-up of Unit 1. Comed will promptly notify the NRR Project Manager of any revisions to the current schedule for start-up of Unit 1.
