Dear Mr. O'Reilly:

Several' conversations have been held between NRR and South Carolina Electric &

Gas Ccurpany (SCE&G) regarding our approach and criteria for overlapping ccmputer analyzed piping math nodels. In order to resolve this issue and close IEB 79-14, SCE&G will either provide detailed information on each overlapped analytical problem to satisfy the NRC's concerns, or perform a study for ccmparison of maximun stresses and support loads of a typical piping problem which used our overlap criteria. '1he analysis models are to be based on:

'1he full anchor-to-anchor problem with corresponding envelope response spectra.

2.

'Ihe cuerlapped subproblems with the response spectra used for each subproblen.

It is expected that the information necessary to resolve this issue will be provided by January 28, 1983. If you require additional information, please advise.
