James A. FitzPatrick Nuclear Power Plant Docket No. 50-333 Inservice Inspection Summary Report - Winter 1981-1982 Outage
Dear Sir:
Attached are two (2) copies of the James A.
FitzPatrick Inservice Inspection Summary Report for the Winter 1981-1982 outage.
This report discusses four major areas:
1.) the component, weld, and pipe support examinations performed in accordance with the FitzPatrick Inservice Inspection Program, 2.) the examination of susceptible stainless steel piping for evidence of intergranular stress corrosion cracking as per NUREG-0313, Rev.
l.,
3.) the examination of the reactor pressure vessel feedwater nozzle inner blend radii as per NUREG-0619 and, 4.) the inspection of jet pump beams and core spray spargers as per IE Bulletin Nos. 80-07 and 80-13.
The results of these inspections were acceptable.
Intergranular stress corrosion cracking in the
'A' core spray piping was discovered during the inspection.
This piping was replaced with nonsusceptible, conforming material (316L stainless steel).
Subsequent metallurgical analysis revealed that the cracking was due to fabrication induced flaws.
Copies of the metallurgical analyses, dated March 25, 1982 and July 30, 1982 are also attached.
This report has been reviewed by the Authority and by the Hartford Steam Boiler Inspection and Insurance Company authorized inservice inspector.
The approval of the authorized inspector is shown on the NIS-1 data form.
