SUBJECT:

SEP SAFETY ASSESSMENT IMBUT FOR TOPICS III-6 AND III-II '.

DRESDEN 2 SEI91IC REVIEW REPORTS (8 f)W References (1) NUREG/CR-0891, Seismic Review of Dresden Nuclear Power Station Unit 2 for the Systematic Evaluation Program, Senior Seismic Review Team, July 1979.

(O EGG-EA-5065, Summary of. the Dresden Unit 2 Pi. ping Cal-culations Performed for the Systematic Evaluation Program, M. E. Nitzel, INEL, November 1979.

'le are attaching the referenced reports which will serve as the principal. input for. our final assessment for Topics III-6 and III-ll for the Dresden 2 plant.

Please transmit these reports to the licensee for their information and review.

The licensee should determine either that the information describing the plant is correct or in error.

On January 9,1980 the NRC trar$smitted a letter to Commonwealth Edison Company (Ceco) requesting that they address various open issues associated with the recently completed seismic review of Dresden 2.

These issues were explained to CECO by the staff and staff consultants at an October.11,1979 meeting.

Ceco responded on March 4,1980 by saying that an item by item update would be forthcoming by 'tarch 17, 1980.

Ue have recently received a status report on each open item in a letter from CECO dated'iarch 27, 1980. The licensee has provided additional informa-tion to address some of these items and has indicated his intended action on the remaining items. However, he has not provided a schedule for the submittal of his ft.ture actions. Rather than address each item in a piecemeal fashion, we would prefer to address all open items in one package (or at least most of then). Therefore, we request that you ~obtain from the licensee the schedule dates for their submittals that will address each item.
