Response to Open Item (SRP 6.2.1; Containment Systems Branch)

Dear Sir:

As a result of a recent meeting with the NRC Staff [ Reference (b)], we offer the following response to the subject open item.

Item (SRP Section 6.2.1)

Address the design capacity of the limiting containment structural component to withstand differential pressure due to inadvertent containment spray actuation.

Res ponse :

Refer to FSAR Subsection 6.2.1.1.b.5, Protection Against External Pressure. This subsection is being revised to read:

"The containment structure, including its steel components, is designed to withstand a maximum external pressure of 3.5 psi (differential pressure). The most limiting event for establishing the required external pressure is the inadvertent actuation of the containment spray system, which results in a pressure dif ferential of 2.8 psi."

Very truly yours, YANKEE ATOMIC ELECTRIC COMP /
