Dear Mr. Denton:

Your June 9, 1981 letter to W. S. Lee requested quarterly updates of the projected construction completion date for Catawba Unit 1. The following provides informa-tion for our fifth quarterly update. Erection status of various commodities for the June, July, and August accounting periods are included.

-Catawba Unit 1 is estimated to be 90 percent complete as of July 18, 1982. This completion figure is based an the installation of key commodities such as piping, support / restraints, cables, concrete, and instrumentation. The estimate of remaining work includes an end of job projection based on projected scope growth of these commodities.

Hydrostatic testing of the Chemical and Volume Control System (NV), the Nuclear Service Water System (RN), the Ice Condenser Refrigeration System (NF), and the Component Cooling System (KC) is complete. These major systems are being prepared for turnover to the Nuclear Production Department for further testing.

Our total Construction workforce increased from 3516 on June 20, 1982 to 3564 on September 19, 1982. Second shift work and overtime is used where necessary to complete work on critical systems.

The following quantities of listed Unit 1 commodities were erected during the June, July, and August accounting periods (14 weeks). The " Quantity Remaining to Be Erected" column includes end of job estimates projected as part of our 1982 reassessment of the Unit 1 schedule.
