Dear Mr. O'Reilly:

BELLEFONTE NUCLEAR PLANT UNIT 1 - UNACCEPTABLE REPLACEMENT FOR COMPONENT COOLING WATER PUMP SHAFT - BLRD-50-438/82 ADDITIONAL SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION The subject deficiency was initially reported to NRC-0IE Inspector Don Quick on March 1, 1982 in accordance with 10 CFR 50.55(e) as NCR 1749. This was followed by our first interim report dated March 29, 1982, our final report dated June 2,1982, our revised final report dated July 8, 1982, our second revised final report dated August 6, 1982 and our supplemental information letter dated December 10, 1982. As discussed with NRC-0IE Inspector Paul Fredrickson by telephone on February 1, 1983, the date of February 1,1983 for completion of corrective actions indicated in our supplemental information letter on this matter would not be met.

Machine instructions essential to wear ring installation had to be revised and were not received until January 19, 1983 These instructions require the use of Loctite thread sealant, which was not provided and is being sent to Bellefonte by B&W.

The corrective action on this matter will be completed by April 19, 1983 We consider 10 CFR Part 21 applicable to this deficiency.

If you have any questions concerning this matter, please get in touch with R. H. Shell at FTS 858-2688.

Very truly yours, TENNESSEE VALLEY AUTHORITY L. M. Mills, nager Nuclear Licensing cc:
