Reference:

Letter from Duke Power Company to NRC, same stbject, dated September 28,1993 Gentlemen:

This letter is to document the telephone conversation-held between.R.E. Martin and G.A.

Schwenk of NRC and Z.L. Taylor and L.J. Rudy of DPCo on February 16,1994 concerning the subject license amendment submittal.

]

The conversation pertained to having two diverse means to monitor the position of the residual heat removal (ND) suction isolation valves once the valves are closed and power is removed.

In the reference, Catawba indicated that an annunciator alarm was proposed to be added as one means of satisfying this requirement. During the telephone conversation, Catawba _noted that q

the other means would be satisfied by using the valve position indication on the Operator Aid i

Computer (OAC). Wiring changes will be made to ensure that the affected computer points will.

remain functional following power lockout to the valves. Also, procedure changes will be made as necessary to reflect the above means of monitoring valve position.

This additional information is intended to supplement the license amendment request made m the reference letter. The No Significant Hazards Consideration Analysis contained in' the.

reference is unchanged as a result of this additionalinformation.

If you have any questions, please call L.J. Rudy at (803) 831-3084.
