t JOSEPH M. FARLEY NUCLEAR PLANT - UNIT 1 NARRATIVE

SUMMARY

OF OPERATIONS - SEPTEMBER 1978 During September the Unit was operated at 100% power up until September 15th, when it was taken off-line for a scheduled outage.

During the outage, p'rimarily scheduled for the Turbine Generator Availability Improvement Program, numerous modifications and testing were performed, and

~

repairs completed.

The following is a list of the significant modifications, testing, and repairs completed during September.

A majority of the items were worked during the outage:

1.

Performed 7300 Process Instrumentation and Control System wiring modifications for response time testing.

Completed Engineered Safety Feature Actuation System response time testing.

Calibrated all protection transmitters.

2.

Verified the setpoint of all Main Steam Line code safety valves.

3.

Reworked the pressurizer spray valves and pressurizer power operated relief valves.

4.

Replaced accumulator 1B vent / relief piping.

5.

Completed repairs on the 1C charging pump (replaced rotating element).

6.

Modified the component cooling water surge tank level transmitters.

7.

Replaced shorted diodes / blown fuses in diesel generator 1-2A control circuit (motor operated potentiometer) when automatic voltage / frequency control failed.

Modified air start systems on all diesel generators by adding air dryers and blowdown valves.

Repaired leaky relief valves / check valves on diesel generator air compressors.

8.

Modified motor driven auxiliary feedwater pump control circuitry to add a defeat of the auto start on loss of main feedwater in-order to be able to shutdown the pumps when the unit is shutdown.

9.

Added containment mini-purge modification to the containment purge system.

10.

Added additional fire proofing to cable spreading room.
