/

~ Administrative Judges Kelley, Bright and Carpenter:

On, September 24, 1982, the North Carolina Utilities Commission disallowed'all but $8,784 million of Applicant Carolina Power &

Light Company's (CP&L)' most recent request for a general rate increase of.$173,700 million.

As a consequence of the Commission's action; it will be y

.necessa'ry. for t h9 Company to reduce expenditures.

Accordingly, CP&L'n manageneu has determined that.the following actions, among others, must be taken:

1..

The commercial operation date of Unit No. 1 of the Shearon Harris Nuclear Power. Plant has=been rescheduled from fall 1985 to spring 1986.

s 2.

.Instead of. proceeding as planned to restart direct con-struction work on tinit No. 2 of the Harris Plant next year, no funds will be budgsted for this purpose.

The schedule for Unit 2 will be revised at the time of final approval by its Board of Directors of the Company's generation plan and construction budget in December. 1982.

2-The more meaningful milestone for licensing purposes, of.

course, is the scheduled date for fuel loading.

The Company's preliminary projection is that fuel will begin to be loaded at Unit.1 in June 1985.

^

Applicant CP&L will advise the Board of any additional decisions it may make concerning the schedules for completion of both of the Harris Units.
