Dear Mr. Haynes:
HPCI/RCIC EXHAUST CHECK VALVES SIGNIFICANT CONSTRUCTION DEFICIENCY HOPE CREEK GENERATING STATION On November 17, 1981, a verbal report was made to Region I, Of fice of Inspection and Enforcement representative, Mr. W.
H.
Bateman, advising of a potential significant deficiency.
On December 15, 1981 and July 30, 1982, written reports were submitted to your office.
The following information is provided in accordance with the requirements of 10CFR50.55 (e).
PSE&G has elected to modify the existing swing check valves rather than replace the swing check valves with lift-type check valves.
We have informed Bechtel Power Corporation, our con-structor at Hope Creek, of our decision and instructed them to obtain the necessary modification hardware from Anchor Darling, the valve manufacturer.
We will advise you when the modifications to the valves have been completed.
