Summer Nuclear Station Docket No. 50/395 Fire Protection
Dear Mr. Denton:
In a previous submittal to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission dated June 29, 1982, South Carolina Electric and Gas Company (SCE&G) requested that relief be granted for watch patrol requirements as addressed in Technical Specification 3.3.3.7,
" Fire Detection Instrumentation."
This item has been discussed in detail during telephone conversations with members of the NRC Staff.
As a result of these discussions, SCE&G is amending the previous proposal to establish a two (2) hour roving Fire Watch Patrol for the accessible areas listed in Table 3.3-11 of the Technical Specification prior to exceeding 5% power.
Once 5%
power is exceeded, the requirements of Technical Specification 3.3.3.7 will be fully implemented.
All newly required smoke detectors will be installed as expeditiously as possible, but no later than startup following the first refueling.
If there are any questions please call us.
Very truly you 4(
