Dear Mr. Denton:

This is to provide additional information requested in reference (a) regarding the status of various systems important to the Human Factors Engineering Branch review of the control. rooms at Byron and Braidwood.

Attachment A to this letter contains the information requested to schedule the human factors review of the Byron / Braid-wood control room.

As indicated in reference (b), the supplement to the preliminary design assessment report is for the Byron additional-items and the Braidwood site specific items scheduled to be sent to the NRC by January 1, 1983.

The information contained in Attachment A indicates that a second' site visit can be' scheduled for February, 1983 or later and should be expected to close out the review of the Byron /Braidwood control room.

Please direct further questions regarding this matter to this office.

i ATTACHMENT A STATUS OF CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES FOR HFEB VISI T 1.

Byron Station ITEM 1:

Overall control room construction is 80% complete and check-out of engineered safety features (safeguards actuation) has not begun.

Both activites should be completed by January 1,1983.

ITEM 2:

Systems are 50% turned over to Operating and should be 100%

turned over by January 1,1983.

ITEM 3:

Normal and emergency lighting' systems are 100% operational.

ITEM 4:

Air conditioning and ventilating systems for the control room are 90% complete and should be completed by August 15, 1982.

ITEM 5:

Installation and powered operation of the control board and display panels are 70% complete and should be completed by January 1, 1983.

ITEMS 6 and 7 Should be answered by the Station.

ITEM 8 Annunciator Systems:. The hardware for the annunciator systems without all remote points is 85% complete and will be completed by October 1, 1982.

Remote points are 60% complete and will be completed by January 1,1983.

ITEM 9 Remote Shutdown Panels:

Phase I o f the Human Factors Review has been completed, and all work associated with it is completed.

Phase II work is scheduled for completion January 11, 1983.

ITEM 10:

Incore thermocouple displays and subcooling monitor displays have not been started.

The selection of the safety parameter display system has just been completed.

This system will be available January 1, 1983.

ITEM 11 and 12:-

These items have been completed.

The process computer and peripherals hardware has been completed.

Software is in the process of being checked out and will not be entirely checked out until Spring, 1983.

ITEM 14:

Operator work space and environment and will not be totally similar to conditions for normal operation until unit Unit 2 is complete.

Braidwood Station Braidwood Unit 1 is presently scheduled approximately two years behind Byron Unit 1.

Specific dates and status for the requested information is not available at this time.
