200 Gettysburg Pike Mechanicsburg, 'a. 17055 December 6,1980 Rep. William Goodling 1713 Longworth House Office Eldg.
W:shington, D. C.
Dear Mr. Goodling I urge you to do eve:7 thing in your power to keep both Unit I and Unit II of M closed forever.
In reporting the quite unwarranted, hasty decision t.o exclude Unit I hearings from considazing psychological stress, it was said that the decision was' being made because Congress had already=:msnitted the country to nuclear power. It would seem that clear signals need to be
,sent from Congress to the NRC that no such commitment has been made.
As our representative in Congress we need for you to express our feelings to your fellow congressmen to make sure that they are infor: sed about our M accident well enough that they make no such commitment as a body.
You have a clearcut opportunity to do this by making sure that no guarantee funds are used by Meted without a specific clause which-ssys -the U.S.
government helps you with money only if you agree NOT to restart Unit I or II-TMI.
Last sus:mer when MetId was venting Krypton they kept pointing cut that many times that adount was released weekly into the atmosphere from an operating plant. We'n had enough poison-we don't want any more.
The scientists like to use figuros to pron none of there releases are dangerous. They used figms to prove a M accident could never ha;; pen too.
But it did.
We already hadtthe largest most dangerous waste dump in the U.S. on a flood-prone island. Everyone involved has been forced to acknowledge that no-one knows wnat to do with it.
No one wants it.
No one will take it.
For God's sake why would we make any more?
A lot isbeing said about MdEd's health these days. Met 5d lives, dies and is made ill only on a piece of paper. It is our health we aro talking about.
Now US includes Washington State and South Carolina, Nevada, Illinois, Kentucky and New Mexico-and every other stat-in the union. It is up to you to maia sure they understand.
