CONFIRMATION OF ACTION LETTER The purpose of this letter is to confirm Entergy Operations, Incorporated'ss commitments to take certain actions as described below. These--commitments were; made during a telephone conversation between Mr. L.~ J. Callan of-the NRC Region IV staff, and Mr. J. McGaha of your staff. Based on-this conversation, we understand that Waterford 3 will not enter MODE 2 until the NRC has confirmed your actions for assuring that ' adequate' safety exists for continued power operation with the identified minor reactor coolant system leakage from i

the casing flange area of reactor coolant pump 1(RCP) 2A. This assurance will s

be established by completing the following *.:tions-4 1.

HRC-inspection at your facility of the ultrasonic! testing (UT)"

j technique for determining degradation of RCP studs.

NRC inspection of your leakage monitnring techniques for detecting l

RCP flange leakage.

Conduct of a conference call between the NRC and your staff-regarding the results of your bounding failure analysis for. RCP stud degradation.
