Summer Nuclear Station Gentlemen: Enclosed herewith is the following data in connection with the Service Water Intake Structure and Pumphouse at the Virgil C. Summer Nuclear Station: Table 3A: Pumphouse settlement readings from June 6, 1978 through October 11, 1978. This table is a continuation of Table 3 in Report No. 2, Service Water Intake Structure, Settlement Effects And Related Work, dated June 28, 1978. Table 10A: Intake Structure settlement mast readings f rom June 6, 1978 through October 11, 1978. This is a continuation of Table 10 in the report. Table ll: Readings through October 6, 1978 of piezo-(, meters which were installed in the West Embankment in August, 1978. Figure 9A: A new figure showing the movement since January, 1978 of Pumphouse Settlement Points A, B, C and D at an expanded scale. l Figure 24: Figure taken from the Settlement Report showing movement of the Intake Structure Monitoring Masts has been updated l through October 11, 1978. F_igure 25: A new figure showing the locations and pro-files of the new piezometers. 1 Figure 26: A new figure showing the piezometer data through October 6, 1978. The settlement data indicates that after some initial downward movement due to filling the Service Water Pond in February and March, 1978 the Pumphouse rebounded approximately 0.5 inches from Consuting Engineers.deologists and EnvironmentalScientists Offices in Ctner Pnncipal Cities

Woodward.Clyde Consultants South Carolina Electric & Gas Company October 23, 1978 Page two March to June. From June through October the rebound has been less than 0.1 inches and appears to have essentially ceased. The monitoring masts indicate that the Intake Structure also rebounded about 0.5 inches between March and June, 1978, and less than 0.2 inches between June and October. The piezometer data shows that the groundwater elevation increases with distance from the Service Water Pond. This indicates that the fill is probably being saturated by a gradual rising of the groundwater f rom within the natural ground beneath the fill in reponse to the filling of Monticello Reservoir and the li' Service Water Pond. This is also indicated at the two locations (- where piezometers are installed at two levels. In both of these cases, the lower level piezometer shows a higher piezometric level, indicating an upward gradient in the groundwater flow.
