Dear Mr. Hunger:

i

SUBJECT:

SEMI-ANNUAL EFFLUENT REPORTS FOR PEACH BOTTOM ATONIC POWER STATION, UNITS 2 AND 3 (TAC NOS. 64640 AND 64641)

In a January 21, 1987 letter, the licensee filed an f. plication for license amendments to facility operating licenses DPR-44 and WR-56. The application requested changes to the reporting requirements of the Peach Bottom technical 1 specifications and a related exemption from 10 CFR 50.36a to permit a 30 day extension for the filing of semi-annual effluent reports. Staff review of the January 21, 1987 submittal has identified the need for additional information. '

The licensee stated that the laboratory that performs effluent sample analyses '

requires approximately 45 days from the time of receipt of the effluent sample  ;

to the issue of final data to the licensee. This processing time was stated  ;

to be typical of analyses of this type performed during a time of heavier than normal workload for the laboratory due to receipt of similar samples from many other utilities to meet the same semi-annual reporting deadlines. The staff requests that the licensee provide a discussion of measures that have been '

considered and/or taken to reduce the amount of time needed to obtain effluent sampic analyses results. We request that this information be submitted within  !

60 days of receipt of this letter.  :

The reporting and/or recordkeeping requirements contained in this letter affect fewer than ten respondents; therefore, OMB clearance is not required under P.L.96-511. Should you have any questions concerning the above, please ,

do not haitate to contact us. '
