O'Reilly) in response to IE Bulletin No. 83-05. Carolina Power- & Light Company installed forinforrned use in thethe NRC that Emergency Hayward Service WaterTyler System Pump ESWS) (Company (HTPC)Harris at the Shearon pumps are Nuclear Power Plant (SHNPP) and committed to test the pumps prior to Hot Functional Testing (HFT). This letter is to inform you that the referenced testing will be performed prior to fuel load but after HFT. The change in this commitment does not affect compliance with Action 5 of IE Bulletin 83 05, which required testing prior to issuance of an operating license.

As committed, the pump performance and operational : test procedures have been established which incorporate the guidance of the subject bullet n to assure that each pump will perform its intended safety function. in order to meet the procedure requirement and achieve closeout of this item, both pumps _ need to be operable.

Currently "B" ESW pump is being reassembled following repair. l To avoid a delay in the HFT schedule, the required testing is being postponed. HFT will be supported by the Normal Service Water Pun ps and if required, the ESW System.
