- BRUNSWICK This refers to the management meeting conducted in the Region II Office on October 12, 1993. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss Nuclear Engineering Department-related issues. A list of attendees, and a copy of your slides are enclosed.

It is our_ opinion that this meeting was beneficial in that it provided a better understanding of Engineering's strengths, challenges, and future goals. Of particular interest were the actions you have taken/ planned with regard to. core shroud repairs on Unit 1.

Brunswick Nuclear Plant CAUSAL FACTORS-METALLURGICAL

SUMMARY

Intergranular Stress Corrosion Cracking (IGSCC) at Top Guide Support Ring IGSCC with possible irradiation Assisted Stress Corrosion Crack (IASCC) propagation at core mid-plane seam welds.

Cracks are intergranular multi-branched and filled with oxides.

Highly Oxidizing High Coolant Conductivity Early in Operating History Stress Factors:

Surface Stresses / Distortion (machining and grinding)
