Since your appraisal of the emergency preparedness drogram conducted at the North Anna Pcwer Station February 16-26, 1982, appropriate revisions as prescribed have been made to the eeergency plan andl i=plementing procedures.

Training a.
Chapter 8 (Maintaining Emergency Preparedness) of the North Anna Emergency Plan tas been completely revised.
This chapter outlines the emergency preparedness training program.
The pregram includes classroom instru ction, practical exercises and where appropriate a hands on demonntration of each individuals ability to perform assigned emergency functions.
Each part of the pregram includes an examination designed to evaluate individual knowledge of assigned functional reshonsibilities.

An en going initial training program will continue until September 5,
1982, when thh initial training for the rev.aining emergency response persodnel vill be completed.
As of July 5, 1982, the training of tie ensergency response personnel is 23 percent complete.

Station Energency Manager Controlling Procedures have been upgraded using EALs which clearly specify the initiating conditions for classifying accidents. This procedure was reviewed and approved by the North Anna Station Nuclear Safety and Operating Co=mittee on July 3, 1982.

All other EPIPs have been reviewed and revised as appropriate to ensure that the procedures adequately i=plement the E erycy Plan, are compatible with the emergency plans and procedures of corporate, Statp and local organizations, and provide reasonable assurance that the necessary emergency functions vill be perfo med in a prompt and ef f ective manner.
We feel that these procedures will allow thel station emergency mansger to clsssif y emergencies, provide pro =pt notification to of f, site agencies and cake ini:ial protective ac titm re cot::menda tions in a ti=ely :anner.
Procedures for the f ollovi.ng emergency functional areas hsve been revisad or japproprince:
in-plant, on-site, and off-site developed as radiological surveys; post accident sa=pling and ana.ysis of the primary coolany, containment
- air, stack etfluents and liquid effluents; pr'otective actions; evacuation and persen el accou:,cability; personnel monitoring and decontamination; and search and rescue.
This action was completed on July 3, 1987.

Initial Dese Assessment l
Initial dose assesqment is now based on monitor readings r.'. t h e r than sampling and analysis.
This procedure comprises a short 3 or 4 step calculation processi.
Members of the emergency organization have been trained on this procedure. Training was completed on July 3, 1982.
