Dear Sir:

Please reference Letter from the Director, Defense Nuclear Agency (DNA),

to you, dated July 23, 1990, subject as above.

The Armed Forces Radiobiology Research Institute (AFRRI) has maintained NRC Materials License No.

19-08330-03 since 1968.

AFRRI has been under the administrative control of DNA, a component of the Department of Defense (DoD),

since the Institute's founding in 1961.

On October 1, 1993 DoD transferred L

administrative control of AFRRI to the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS),

another DoD component.

Thus, AFRRI is now a subordinate element of USUHS, not DNA.

i As was the case under DNA, the Director of AFRRI remains the licensee for NRC License No. 19-08330-03 and retains the same full operational, safety, and emergency control over this license which existed before the transfer.

DoD remains the ultimate owner of AFRRI and source of funding.

Certification of responsibility for decommissioning costs, originally assumed by DNA on the behalf of DoD, are now assumed by the USUHS on the behalf of DoD.

Request that this letter be included as page G-4 to Appendix G of the I

revised renewal application for our license which was submitted to you for review on 12 August 1993 and that page G-1 of this application be replaced by the attached page G-1.
