$SMUD SACRAMENTO MUNICIPAL UTILITY DISTRICT O 6201 S Street, Box 15830, Sacramento, california 95813; (916) 452-3211 July 21, 1982 DIRECTOR OF NUCLEAR REACTOR REGULATION ATTENTION JOHN F STOLZ CHIEF OPERATING REACTORS BRANCH 4 U S NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION WASHINGTON DC 20555 DOCKET 50-312 RANCHO SECO NUCLEAR GENERATING STATION UNIT N0 1 LOADING 0F AUXILIARY FEEDWATER PUMP ONTO A DIESEL GENERATOR-POWERED BUS In a telephone conversation on July 1, 1982, Mssrs. Jim Lazevnick and Mark Padovan of the NRC requested additional information to a submittal made by the Sacramento Municipal Utility District on February 18, 1980. The submittal provided data regarding loading of the auxiliary feedwater pumps onto a diesel generator-powered bus.

The following information is provided in response to the NRC questions:

(1) After loading, how long before load transients level out? Block 3 recovered to about 3744 volts after 52 cycles from load initiation. The lowest frequency reached was 59.2 hertz, which is within the two percent limit.

(2) Was voltage and frequency corrected by the operator prior to loading the auxiliary feedwater pump? No.

(3) What is the final steady state voltage and frequency after loading the auxiliary feedwater pump? The frequency recovered to within two percent at 3.5 seconds and stabilized to 60 hertz at 5.0 seconds.

The voltage recovered to within ninety percent nominal at 1.8 seconds and stabilized to about 4095 volts in 8.0 seconds.

If we can provide any additional information, please advise.
