BELLEFONTE NUCLEAR PLANT UNITS 1 AND 2 - SEISMIC QUALIFICATION OF B&W EQUIPMENT IN TVA PANELS - NCR BLN BLP 8011 - SIXTH INTERIM REPORT The subject deficiency was initially reported to NRC-OIE Inspector R. W. Wright on November 24, 1980 in accordance with 10 CFR 50.55(e).
This was followed by our interim reports dated December 23, 1960 and April 23 and October 28, 1981, February 18 and May 18, 1982. Enclosed is our sixth interim report. We expect to submit our next report by September 27, 1982.

SIXTH INTERIM REPORT Description of Deficiency A number of B&W supplied instruments are intended for installation in TVA's free standing, open, local instrument panels. Because of imprecise specifications in a TVA procurement document, the instrumentation supplied by B&W has not been seismically qualified to a response spectra which is compatible with the response spectra for TVA local instrument panels.
The responsibility for this deficiency is TVA's.

To date, of the 253 total B&W devices in question, all but 32 have been determined to be acceptable. For those 32, TVA has requested B&W to reevaluate these devices to the higher "g" levels as part of the NUREG-0588 qualification program.
