WASHINGTON. O C. 20555-0001 August 12, 1993 Docket Nos. 50-413 and 50-414 Mr. David L. Rehn Vice President, Catawba Site Duke Power Company 4800 Concord Road York, South Carolina 29745

Dear Mr. Rehn:

SUBJECT:

STATUS OF LICENSING ISSUES As a result of a recent review of licensing issues, we have identified several issues for which we request an update on the status of Duke Power Company's (DPC) implementation activities as follows:

Generic letter 89-13. Service Water Systems. TAC Nos. M73980. M73981 The NRC letter of August 15, 1991, noted the receipt of the first of two responses to the Generic letter (GL).

Please provide an update on the status of the second response to the GL as well as an indication of the schedule for DPC's implementation of all actions that were cited in the response to this GL.

Safety Evaluation for the Steam Generator Tube Rupture Analysis.

TAC Nos.

M66753. M66754 The NRC letter of May 14, 1991, indicated that the staff had completed its analysis of the steam generator (SG) tube rupture analysis that was addressed by conditions to the operating licenses. The staff concluded that DPC had met the requirements of the license conditions subject to the completicn of a commitment to show that the operator action times assumed in the UPC analysis are realistic. Mr. M. S. Tuckman's letter of August 15, 1991, indicated that the demonstration runs of operator response time had been made but that the response times were not valid and they would be rescheduled.

Please provide an update on the status of completion of this matter.

Generic letter 88-14. Instrument Air. TAC Nos. M71641. M71642 The NRC letter of December 31, 1991, concluded that DPC had addressed all of the issues of the GL and that the licensing review action was, thereby, closed.

The letter also rtquested that, whenever all requirements of the GL i
