Frequently used terms which have unique meanings in the Program or the-Code or have meanings which would not be readily understood are defined-below.

Terms coanonly used in vocabulary of present day English which have definitions that are readily available-in common reference dictionaries of the English language carry such meanings unless otherwise defined below:

MATERIAL MANUFACTURER - A manufacturer who produces and certifies metallic materials.

MATERIAL SUPPLIER - An organisation who supplies metallic materials produced and certified by a Material Manuf acturer.

METALLIC MATERIALS - Materisla manufactured to an SA, SB, or SFA Specification or any other specifications permitted by the Code.

NATIONAL BOARD - The National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspectors.

NONCONFORMANCE - A deficiency in characteristic. documentation, or procedure which renders the quality of an item unacceptable or indeterminate.

NONCONFORMANCE REPORT (NCR)

A fore which documents a nonconformance and the disposition of the nonconformance.

NOMPERMANElrF RECORDS - Those records classified and listed as nonpermanent records by the Code. The owner is responsible for their retention for the time period (s) identified in the Code.

OVERVIEV - An all-inclusive term used to refer to reviews, surveillances, verifications, inspections and audits performed under the Program to i

establish an additional level of assurance that Code items and activities are in compliance with Project Code couaiteents.

OWNER - The-organisation which obtains a Construction Permit from the 4

Nuclear Reguistory Commission for the construction of a nuclear power plant and who certifies the Owner's N-3 Code Data Report.

PIPING SUBASSEM3 TIES - A section of a piping system consisting of fittings and pipes tubes which are fabricated as subassemblies in a shop or or in the field before they are installed in a nuclear power system.

The Design Specifications and Design Report for the piping systen shall apply to the piping subassemblies of that system.

QUALITY ASSURANCE - Quality assurance comprises all those planned. and 4,

systematic actions necessary to provide adequate confidence that all i

components,. parts, and appurtenances are designed and constructed _in, i

accordance with the Code.

Quality assurance includes quality control eassination and quality control administration.

QUALITY ASSURANCE RECORDS - Those records which furnish documentary s

evidence of the quality of items and activities affecting quality. For the purpose of this Program, a document 'is considered to be a quality assurance-record when the document has,been completed.

Records shall be considered valid only if stamped, initialed, signed, or otherwise authenticated and dated by authorized personnel.

i QUALITY Colf7FOL ADMINISTRATION - Quality control administration is the' management. and documentation which assures that the specified quality control examination is carried out.

QUALITY ColffROL EEAMINATION - Quality control examination comprises tha examination of the physical characteristics of a material or ite:s to establish conformance to the acceptance standards associated with those examinations.

REGULATORY AUTHORITY - A Federal Government agency, i.e.,

the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), responsible for issuing and enforcing regulations concerning design, construction, and operation of nuclear power plants.

REVIEV - A process by which a document or record is evaluated for conformance to requirements.

The review shall be documented with the identity of the reviewer (i.e., signature or stamp) and date.

l SELLER - As used in this Manual, is the business entity providing materials, equipment, or services pursuant to a purchase order.

STRESS REPORT OR DESIGN REPORT - A design record which shows that the allowable
