ATTN: Mr. Cordell Reed

Senior Vice President

Post Office Box 767

Gentlemen:

This report refers to a meeting which I and members of my staff conducted with

representatives from your corporate office and LaSalle station concerning

radiological conditions caused by past overflows in radwaste tank rooms at

LaSalle station. This meeting was held in the Region 111 office on May 30,

1990, with a followup telephone discussion on June 18, 1990.

The purpose of the meeting was to discuss radiological conditions of these rooms,

plans for their decontamination, and corrective actions taken or planned to

avoid future overflows. The enclosed copy of our report summarizes the topics

discussed during the meeting.

As a result of this meeting, you agreed to provide us a copy of the completed

'

ALARA review package (s) for radwaste repair and cleanup projects in six

identified radwaste tank rooms, including applicable radiation protection and

ALARA proceduret and a schedule for project completion. Please submit these

materials tu Mr. Martin Schumacher of my staff.

'

Also discussed during this meeting was the adequacy of health physics surveys

performed in connection with work in one of the radwaste tank rooms during the

recent ALARA team inspection at LaSalle. As communicated to Mr. Huntington of

your staff subsequent to this meeting, certain of your. activities in this

regard appeared to be in violation of NRC requirements, as specified in the

enclosed Notice of Violation. A written response is required.
