-RESTART AUTHORIZATION, EDWIN I. HATCH UNIT 1 (TAC 76739)
- During: the course of the current Unit' 1-maintenance / refueling outage, the NRC staff has had a number of telephone conference calls with your representatives regarding the progress of the IGSCC (intergranular stress corrosion cracking) examinations conducted in accordance with your commitments to Generic Letter (GL) 88-01 i
and NUREG-0313.,On April 3,,1990, we met with your representatives' to discuss details'of the findings at that time.
GL 88-01 ' ~ requi res NRC approval of fIaw evaluations and repairs-prior to resumption of operations.
Your letter of April 30, 1990,
- provided a summary of the results of the examinations, including the scope expansions that had been discussed with and agreed to by the NRC staff, and the proposed overlay designs for those welds
that-had been identified as needing repairs.
The staff has reviewed the flaw evaluations and proposed repairs described in your April 30, 1990, letter and agrees that when the identified welds have been repaired in accordance with the overlay designs, restart of the unit may be safely conducted.
We will, of s
course, expect to receive the full report of - the outage related inspection activities following restart of Unit 1.
