McGuire Nuclear Station, Unit 1 Docket No. 50-369 Thermal Sleeves

Dear Mr. Denton:

In regard to discussions at meeting of July 14 between Duke Power Company and NRC Staff concerning continued operation of McGuire Unit 1, the following was agreed to during the discussions:

1)

Control rod operabilitv checks will be performed weekly.

The technical Specification requirement is monthly.

2)

Incore flux mapping will be performed weekly.

The Technical Specification requirement is monthly.

3)

Analysis to determine reactor coolant activity will be performed daily.

The Technical Specifi-cation Requirement is weekly.

These results will be reviewed for trends.

4)

The Loose Parts Monitoring System will be checked by verification of audio signal by the shif t Technical Advisor on an hourly frequency.

5)

The plant will commence a controlled shutdown if the loose Parts Monitor Systems is inoperable for more than 72 hours8.333333e-4 days <br />0.02 hours <br />1.190476e-4 weeks <br />2.7396e-5 months <br />.

6)

At the time of an extended outage to remove the existing thermal sleeves, an ultrasonic examination of the affected areas of the nozzles will be per fo rmed.

These interim actions will continue until such time that The affected thermal sleeves are removed from the Reactor Coolant System.
