Mr. James P. O'Reilly, Regional Administrator 101 Marietta Street, Suite 3100 Atlanta, Georgia 30303

Dear Mr. O'Reilly:

BELLEFONTE NUCLEAR PLANT UNIT 1 - UNACCEPTABLE REPLACEMEliT FOR COMPONENT COOLING WATER PUMP SHAFT - BLRD-50-438/82 REVISED FINAL REPORT The subject deficiency was initially reported to NRC-0IE Inspector i

Don Quick on March 1, 1982 in accordance with 10 CFR 50.55(e) as NCR 1749.

This was followed by our first interim report dated March 29, 1982 and our final report dated June 2, 1982. We consider 10 CFR Part 21 applicable to this deficiency.

As discussed with NRC-0IE Inspector R. V. Crlenjak by telephone on June 23, the date of July 1, 1982 for completion of corrective actions indicated in our final report on these matters was not met. TVA has not yet received return shipping instructions from the vendor of the defective pump shaft.

The pump shaft will be returned upon receipt of these instructions. Also, the wrong wear rings were supplied with the replacement pump shaft. Since the original wear rings cannot be used, reinstallation of the repaired original shaft must await receipt of the correct wear rings. The corrective action on these matters will be completed by December 1, 1982.

If you have any questions concerning this matter, please get in touch with l

R. H. Shell at FTS 858-2688.
