Thank you for your letter of May 14, 1982, inf.orming us of steps you have taken
to correct the item of noncompliance concerning activities under NRC Operating
License No. DPR-72 brought to your attention in our letter of April 14, 1982.
The additional information which you have provided regarding the PU-239 source is
accepted and we agree that the source would not be classified as a sealed source.
We do, however, believe it is a prudent health physics procedure _ to periodically
determine the integrity of the source.
We acknowledge that the referenced procedure, RP-202, does not specifically
address the AMS-2 sampler. However, it is our understanding that failure to
change filters on this portable sampler weekly was an isolated occurrence and
that discussions with the supervisor of the area and the technicians have been
held to preclude recurrences.
We will examine your corrective actions and plans during subsequent inspections.
We appreciate your cooperation with us.
