Inspection 50-412/82-01
This refers to the routine safety inspection conducted by Mr. G. A. Walton of
this office on January 4, 1982 to February 26, 1982 at the Beaver Valley
1
Nuclear Power Station, Unit 2, Shippingport, Pennsylvania.
The inspection
consisted of selective examinations of procedures and representative
records, interviews with personnel, and observations by the inspectors.
In addition, our Mobile NDE Laboratory was also brought to your site and used
by the inspectors to make certain independent measurements.
The purpose of
these measurements is to assess material traceability and the adequacy of your
!
program by performing independent nondestructive examinations of items
previously accepted under your program. The findings were discussed with Mr.
C. E. Ewing and others of your staff.
Apparent violations of NRC requirements are cited in Appendix A and categorized
by level in accordance with Federal Register Notice 45 FR 66754 (October 7, 1980).
A reply is required and should be prepared in accordance with Appendix A.
It
is exempt from the Office of Management and Budget's clearance procedures
under the Paperwork Reduction Act of 1980, PL 96-511.
In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790(a), a copy of this letter and the enclosures

will be placed in the NRC Public Document Room unless you notify this office,

by telephone, within ten days of the date of this letter and submit written
application to withhold information contained therein within thirty days of
the date of this letter.
Such application must be consistent with the
requirements of 2.790(b)(1).
