Dear Mr. DelGeorge:
SUBJECT:
EXEMPTION REQUETT - FIRE PROTECTION RULE SCHEDULAR REQUIREMENTS OF 10 CFR 50.48(c) - DRESDEN STATION UNIT 1 The Fire Protection Rule. (10 CFR 50.48) published on November 19, 1980, became effective on February 17, 1981, and required the results of certain tasks to be submitted to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) by March 19,1981. By letter dated March 17, 1981, you applied for exemption from the schedular requirements of 10 CFR 50.48(c) and 10 CFR 50.48(d).
You also requested that the completion date for fire protection features required by 10 CFR 50.48 and Appendix R to 10 CFR 50 be revised to require completion of these items prior to the startup of Dresden 1 from the current extended outage.
The Commission has granted your request as described in the enclosed exemption (Enclosure 1). To assure that the NRC staff has sufficient time to review those fire protection features that require NRC approval before implementation, the exemption requires that the submittals required by 10 CFR 50.48(c)(5) be made 18 months prior to the scheduled startup of Dresden 1 A copy of this exemption is being filed with the Office of the Federal Register for publication.
