BELLEFONTE NUCLEAR PLANT UNITS 1 AND 2 - SEISMIC QUALIFICATION OF B&W EQUIPMENT IN TVA PANELS - NCR BLN BLP 8011 - FIFTH INTERIM REPORT The subject deficiency was initially reported to NRC-0IE Inspector R. W. Wright on November 24, 1980 in accordance with 10 CFR 50.55(e).
This was followed by our interim reports dated December 23, 1980 and April 23 and October 28, 1981 and February 18, 1982. Enclosed is our fifth interim report. We expect to submit our next report by July 19, 1982.

FIFTH INTERIM REPCRT Description of Deficiency A number of B&W supplied instruments are intended for installation in TVA's free standing, open, local instrument panels. Because of imprecise specifications in a TVA procurement document, the instrumentation supplied by B&W has not been seismically qualified to a response spectra which is compatible with the response spectra for TVA local instrument panels.
The responsibility for this deficiency is TVA's.

To date, of the 253 total B&W devices in question, all but 32 have been determined to be acceptable. For those 32, TVA has asked B&W to consider requalification of these devices to the higher "g" levels as part of the NUREG-0588 qualification program.
