g' By letter dated April 1,1982, we informed you that operation of McGuire utilizing the Model D stean generators, on an interim basis at 50% power was acceptable until a demonstrable technical basis is provided to support interim operation at power levels greater than 50%.

Your letters dated April 28 and April 30, 1982, described and discussed a pro-posed operating program for a period extending to July 1982 including short term operation at 75% power. As a result of our review of the information provided, we conclude and find acceptable your McGuire 1 operating program for a period extending from May to July 4,1982, including operation at 75% power for a 3

maximum of 720 hours0.00833 days <br />0.2 hours <br />0.00119 weeks <br />2.7396e-4 months <br /> (30 days).

We require that the staff be imediately notified in the event there is any indication of steam generator tube behavior contrary to the information which was provided in your April 28, 1982, submittal. Subsequent to the approved period of operation ending on July 4,1982, and as indicated in your request, an eddy current test, shall be perforned on the first three rows of tubes in each steam generatorgand the results reported to NRR. A summary of the results of our review is presented in the enclosure.
