Dear fir. llancock:
i Pursuant to the itRC Task Action Plan I.A.2.6(4), the Division of Hunan Factors Saf ety (DHFS) has contracted with Battelle-Pacific florthwest Laboratory to conduct and evaluate regional workshops as a nethod of obtaining reactor operator feedback on selected issues of concern to both the fiRC and the operator.
Two workshops have already been comleted under this project:
Workshop 1, (Region Ill) Chicago, Illinois, December 8-9, 1981; and Workshop II, (Region 1)
Boston,t'assachusetts, March 16-17, 1932. The issues discussed by the operators at these workshnps included:
(1) plant drills (2) the role of the STA, (3) strengths ot~ and inprovenents to the operator licensing p; ocess, (4) simulator traininq, and (S) requalification.
The quality of the feedback from these two workshops has been extrei.ely good.
The operators have been very participative in these two-day sessions and their coments have had sone impact on current
- issues, lhe third operator feedback workshop is beinq planned for Region 11 and is to be held on May 25-26 in Atlanta, Georgia, at the Century Inn - 1996 Phoenix Boulevard, College Park, Atlanta. The topics for discussion will be:
1.
iiRC Policy on Overtine 2.
Operator Licensing Examination (guidelines, requalification) 3.
Requirenent for a Second SRO on Shif t as of July 1,1982.
The intent of these workshops is to develop a nechanisa whereby licensed reactor operators can connunicate directly with the hRC. This would include R0s, SR0s, and Shift Supervisors.
If possible, we would like to have one or two of your licensed shif t personnel attend these reetings in Atlanta.
You should also be aware that participation is voluntary both on the part of the utility and the operators.
