Dear Mr. Eisenhut:
This is in regard to your August 31, 1981 letter (Generic Letter No. 81-34) on safety concerns associated with pipe breaks in the BWR scram systed. Carolina Power & Light Company (CP&L) has reviewed the NRC staff giridance contained in NUREG-0803, " Generic Safety Evaluation Report Regarding Int.egrity of BWR Scram System Piping." Based upon this review, CP&L prepared a draft plant-specific response for the Brunswick Steam Electric Plant which hae' been undergoing extensive in-house review. As a result of this continuing review, we determined that additional documentation was required to support conclusions drawn in our plant-specific response. Ws directed our architect-engineer to perform these analyses which are scheduled to be completed by May 21,1982. Based on this projection, CP&L will submit the Brunswick plant-specific response to Generic Letter No. 81-34 by June 4,1982.
