SEP 3 01980 ANDUM FOR:

Stephen H. Hanauer, Director, Division of Human Factors Safety, NRR FROM:

Frank Schroeder, Acting Director, Division of Safety Technology, NRR

SUBJECT:

SAFETY INJECTION SIGNAL RESET The encle",ed memorandum describes our review of a potential problem at the Point Beach ieactors of negating the automatic initiation of containment spray if the Safety Injection Signal (SIS) is reset.

In other reactor plants there may be other safety functions that could be adversely affected by SIS reset.

We recomend that as part of TMI Action Plan Tasks I.C.8 and I.C.9, plant speci-fic procedures be reviewed with s 3ecific attention to the potential problems of SIS reset.

Caution notes should se added where appropriate, to advise the opera-tors of all the implications of SIS reset on that particular plant.
