References:
1) letter, March 8,1982 from Vermont Yankee
- 2) 46 FR 58484, December 2,1981 In your letter dated March 8,1982 you infomed us of your plans and schedule for implementing the containment inerting requirements by May 4,1982 as required by 10 CFR 50.44 (Reference 2).
You also infomed us of schedular problems resulting from the planned inerting related to the installation of redundant atmospheric monitoring equipment in accordance with the guidelines of Regulatory Guide 1.7.
Although you state that you will meet the inerting requirements of 10 CFR 50.44, there will be a period of time, due to procurement delays, before you will have installed redundant hydrogen and oxygen monitoring equipment suitable to function in an inerted containment atmosphere.
We conclude that you have shown good cause for the delay in the hydrogen /
oxygen monitor installatun, and find your plans and schedule acceptable.
Our conclusion is based on your meeting the inerting requirement of 10 CFR 50.44, although not meeting the monitoring system redundancy guidelines of Regulatory Guide 1.7 for an interim period beginning immediately after the start of inerting.
Please attempt to place the new hydrogen / oxygen analyzer in service as soon as possible and notify us promptly if the delivery or installation schedule slips from that which you have already informed us of.
Sincerely, CalGIT*AL SIG M
