James G Keppler, Administrator Region III US Nuclear Regulatory Commission 799 Roosevelt Road Glen Ellyn, IL 60137 DOCKET 50-155 - LICENSE DPR BIG ROCK POINT PLANT - RESPONSE TO IE BULLETIN 81 SURVEILLANCE OF MECHANICAL SNUBBERS IE Bulletin No 81-01 dated January 27, 1981, requested Consumers Power Company to provide a schedule for an inspection program covering mechanical snubbers and to provide a report of the results of the inspections performed. This request resulted mainly from several instsnces of failure of mechanical snubbers supplied by International Nuclear Safeguards Corporation (INC).
Big Rock Point (BRP) does not have any snubbers manufactured by INC; there-fore, those actions of the bulletin relatin;; to INC snubbers were not considered applicable. Consumers Power Company letter dated March 13, 1981 provided our schedule for an inspection program covering mechanical snubbers.
As was committed to in our letter dated March 13, 1981, we completed the vieual inspection and functional testing for the BRP snubbers during the last refueling outage which ended April 15,'1982.
We hereby submit the results of the inspections performed. A minimum of 200 man-hours were expended in the testing, review, evaluation and preparation of this report.
