ENCLOSURE CATAWBA NUCLEAR STATION Docket Nos.:

50-413/414 PURGE Aub VENT VALVE OPERABILITY Duke has stated that the following valves should be operable during modes 1-4 Catawba:

Containment Purge Valves:

4 VP 18,,VP 2A, VP.38, VP 4A, VP 10A, VP llB, VP 12A, VP 13B Containment Air Release:

VQ 2A, VQ 3B, VQ 158, VQ 16A Since these valves are to be opened during operating modes, qualification documentation which shows how these valves meet Branch Technical Position 4

C5B 6-4 should be submitted for review (in order to meet the requirement of kUREG-0737, II.E.4.2, position b).

Qualification should show the valves are capable of closing against the bui'ld-up of containment pressure in the event of a LOCA. A combination of seismic and LOCA loads should be addressed, and the effects of upstream piping configurations on aerodynamic torques should be addressed.
