Virgil C. Sumer Nuclear Station Docket No. 50/395 Control Room Design Review Human Factors
Dear Mr. Denton:
In a letter to you dated January 15, 1981, South Carolina Electric and Gas Conpany subnitted a report titled " Human Factors Engineering Evaluation and Inprovement of the Virgil C. Sumner Nuclear Station Control Roan." This report described the backfits which we were inplementing to correct the descrepancies identified in the NBC audit and the Essex preliminary evaluation. During the process of designing and inplementing the detailed backfits, minor revisions were required to some of the backfit descriptions provided in the report.
Attached to this letter are revised sheets of the report which reflect the as-built backfit description. This information has been provided to the Resident I&E Inspector for his use in verifying the backfits.
Also attached are revisions to the three specifications which were appendices to the report. These reflect additions or revisions made to the specifications during the backfit inplementation process.
All backfits are now conplete with the exception of discrepencies 4.2a through e and 2.2a. The backfits for 4.2a through e will be cm pleted with the receipt and installation of the color coded graphic insert for the HVAC control board. This will be conplete prior to fuel load, as will the short term '
backfit for 2.2a. The long term backfit for 2.2a will be inplemented as soon
- as possible after receipt of the new reactor trip switch. The expected ..
shipping date for this switch is April 23, 1982.
SCE&G believes that, with the submittal of this information and conpletion of these backfits, all human factors inprovements necessary to meet the operating license requirenents of TMI Iten I.D.1 will be complete.
