Mr. Christopher Simpson 3402 Newton Street #6 IN RESPONSE REFER Mt. Rainier, MD 20712 TO F01A-81-410

Dear Mr. Simpson:

This is in further response to your letter of October 7,1981 in which you requested, pursuant to the Freedom of Information Act, information pertaining to eight enumerated companies which manufacture semiconductors, integrated circuits and microcomputer chips.

Please find enclosed the six documents listed on Appendix A.

These documents pertain to incidents involving Signetics Corporation which occurred in 1977 and 1981.

A scarch in the NRC's Region IV (Arlington, Texas) and Region V (Walnut Creek, California) offices has not produced any documents pertaining to Intel Corporation.

It would be helpful if you could provide more specific information from the May 2,1981 newspaper clipping you cited, such as the location and date of the Krypton-85 venting.

It is our understanding that you will contact NMSS directly in order to make arrangements to review the documents pertaining to three NRC licensees.

Dear Sir or Madam:

This letter is to confirm my intention to pay costs involved in my Freedom of Information Act request noted above. Please move ahead as expeditiously as possible with my request. Thank you.

I would, however, like to request that fees be waived, The material I am seeking is for publication in several national publications. As a free lance writer, however, I lack the sutatantial backing necessary to cover high costs. Therefore, I believe that I am particularly deserving of a fee waiver.

Thank you very much for your attention to this request. If I can be of any help, please feel free to call me at the above number.
