Dear Mr. Crutchfield:
~
Subject:
Status of NUREG-0737 ltem II.F.1.3 at Oyster Creek Nuclear Generating Station
Reference:
(1) Letter to I. R. Fintrock, Jr. from NRC dated January 11, 1982 (2) Letter to Director, NRR f rom P. R. Clark dated August 27, 1981 (3) Letter to Director, NRR f rom P. R. Clark dated December 24, 1981 Correspondenca received from you (ref erence 1) requested that if the Commissions' understanding of our position on the subject NUREG item was not correct, to formally notify you within 30 days.
The purpose of this letter is to clarity our position on this item.
In correspondence dated August 27, 1981 (reference 2), which was amended by a December 24, 1981 submittal (reference 3) we delineated our position on several NUREG 0737 items including this one.
We consider the December 24, 1981 submittal to be our latest and current position. As stated in our December 24, 1981 letter, our justification for deferment is that the installation of enhanced containment high range radiation monitoring capabilities would not prevent or mitigate the consequences of an accident. Therefore, postponing the installation of the monitoring equipment for one cycle will not have an unacceptable impact on the health and safety of the public.
